The Chiefs won their third straight game as a four goal second period keyed Spokane to a 6-2 win over the Kamloops Blazers Tuesday night in Kamloops, BC. With the win, Spokane improved to 3-1 and with six points, took over first place in the U.S. Division. Drayson Bowman had one goal and three assists in his return to Spokane and Mitch Wahl had two goals and an assist to give him a team leading eight points on the season.
Wahl got the Chiefs on the board with his team leading third goal of the season just 5:25 into the first period. Brett Bartman and Bowman picked up the assists. Tyler Shattuck’s power play goal at 6:30 of the period evened the game at one after the first, as Spokane outshot Kamloops 14-10 in the first.
Levko Koper’s second goal of the year, from Stefan Ulmer and goalie Dustin Tokarski, at 2:24 of the second period gave the Chiefs a 2-1 lead. Wahl would add his second goal of the night just 1:10 later to extend the Chiefs lead to 3-1. Bowman assisted on the play. In his first game back with Spokane from the Carolina Hurricanes camp, Bowman would score on a breakaway at 7:06 of the period from Wahl and Bartman to give the Chiefs a 4-1 lead. Ulmer’s second goal of the season, unassisted at 15:43, would give Spokane a 5-1 lead after two periods.
Dustin Donaghy’s first goal of the year on a rebound of a Bowman shotat 7:04 of the third gave the Chiefs a 6-1 lead. Kamloops' C.J. Stretch scored a power play goal at 9:58 and capped the scoring. Spokane outshot Kamloops 35-32 in the contest. On the night, Bartman was on the ice for all six Chiefs goals, finished the night with a +6 and a pair of assists.
The Chiefs head to Chilliwack for their first meeting of the year with the Bruins Wednesday night at 7pm. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA beginning with Comcast Hockey Tonight at 6:30.
